UPDATE: We’ve made the decision to cancel our convening, The Next Education Workforce: From Thought to Action, on April 22-24 in Scottsdale. We are disappointed that we will not have the opportunity to meet in person to advance the work of the Next Education Workforce.
By 2035, there will be more young people entering Africa's workforce each year than in the rest of the globe combined.
But a significant gap exists between the number of young people seeking work and the limited employment opportunities available. There’s a mismatch between the skills demanded by the market and the training young people receive.

Mirka Koro, professor of qualitative research and director of doctoral programs for Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, was named the Outstanding Doctoral Mentor by the ASU Graduate College for 2019–20. Koro will receive the award in a Feb. 24 ceremony.
Steve Graham, a Mary Ellen Warner Professor of Education at Arizona State University's Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, won the 2018 Sylvia Scribner Award, presented by the American Educational Research Association. Named for American psychologist Sylvia Scribner, the award recognizes researchers whose work over the last decade represents a significant advancement in the understanding of learning and instruction.

Fifty years ago, international testing was launched as a way to collect more data for developing an understanding of educational systems in a comparative perspective. Today, international testing has gained a life of its own, and average test scores are being used to define the quality of educational systems and even the quality of labor forces.
