Important dates and fees

You may apply online for graduation by visiting My ASU and going to "Apply for Graduation" in the “My Programs & Advising” box.

  • Undergraduate and graduate: $100
  • Each additional, concurrent degree: $25
  • Late fee, if applicable: $35

Note: If the application deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline will be extended to the next business day.

To avoid paying a late fee, your application must be received by the appropriate deadline.

Yes! Applying to graduate and registering for ceremonies are two separate processes. After you have applied to graduate and been approved, you will still need to register for ceremonies through your My ASU portal once registration opens, if you plan to attend.

ASU Commencement ceremonies are the official graduation event of the university, open to all graduating students, regardless of the college in which they are graduating.

The MLFC Convocation is a celebratory ceremony for students graduating from Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation.

You are not required to attend any of the ceremonies to obtain your degree. You are welcome to participate in one of your choosing, both or neither.

  • Master’s graduates will be hooded by a fellow graduate standing next to them, but will not cross the stage or receive individual recognition
  • Doctoral graduates will be hooded and cross the stage to receive congratulations

Yes! You are welcome to participate in any future spring or fall MLFC convocation ceremony of your choosing.

Email the MLFC convocation team at [email protected] to register. (Suggestion: email us in mid-October for a fall ceremony or mid-March for a spring ceremony.)

If you are graduating in the summer, you are welcome to participate in either the spring or fall ceremonies, depending on which you prefer. You can walk in the spring ceremony even if you have not yet completed your courses.

MLFC Convocation: Yes. If you have missed the RSVP deadline for the MLFC Convocation, email us at [email protected] to be manually registered by our team.

ASU Commencement: Most likely yes. If you have missed the RSVP deadline for the ASU Commencement ceremonies, please email [email protected] about participating.

Yes. You must apply to graduate, regardless of whether you participate in a ceremony.

Only the names of graduates attending MLFC Convocation in person will be called. 

You can watch the ceremony live at live.asu.edu; however, your name will not be shown or called if you are not in attendance.

Regalia is required to attend any of the ASU graduation ceremonies. All graduates are required to wear a cap and gown.

Tassels for the Mary Lou Fulton College are light blue, but you may wear a commemorative gold tassel instead.

Students can purchase their graduation regalia online through Herff Jones until November 17. Students can purchase graduation regalia in person at all four Sun Devil Campus Stores. Check store hours.

ASU Grad Fair: Enjoy discounts on your regalia

The ASU Grad Fair is your chance to receive exclusive discounts on graduation packages, including your cap, gown and tassel. At this online event, discounts are offered through Herff Jones.

Undergraduate students completing a bachelor’s degree qualify for academic recognition based on cumulative GPA.

  • 3.40-3.59 - cum laude
  • 3.60-3.79 - magna cum laude
  • 3.80-4.00 - summa cum laude

Honor Cord Pickup:

On-campus students: Visit any University Registrar Services location during office hours

ASU Online students: Honor cords will be mailed automatically to eligible students.

Honors cords will be distributed based on your current GPA. Your diploma and transcripts will reflect the appropriate designation based on your final cumulative ASU GPA.

Master's students with a 4.0 cumulative GPA qualify for "With Distinction" recognition on diplomas and transcripts. Graduate students do not receive honor cords.

Note: This recognition began in fall 2022 and applies only to coursework completed at ASU as a graduate student.

The University Academic Calendar determines future commencement dates. The university does not confirm the dates for MLFC Convocation ceremonies until the semester has started. For spring ceremonies, the date will be confirmed by early March. For fall ceremonies, the date will be confirmed by early October. Check the University page for updates.

Once the University announces the dates, MLFC will add it to our webpage. If it is not on the MLFC webpage, we do not have the date yet.

You are welcome to bring as many guests as you’d like. They will not be required to show tickets to enter the arena. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Guest information for convocation

Convocation will take place at Desert Financial Arena and will begin promptly. The ceremony is expected to last 90 minutes.

Doors to the arena open one hour before the ceremony for all guests. No tickets are required, and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

A clear bag policy is in effect during Convocation as a part of our commitment to providing an expedited entry process and enjoyable guest experience.

Review the ASU bag policy for a list of prohibited items. Guests will be asked to either return prohibited items to their parked vehicle, if they have not yet entered the stadium, or dispose of them at the gate.

Historically, for events taking place at Desert Financial Arena or Sun Devil Stadium, the following parking is recommended: 

Will there be live captioning available? Yes.

Will there be an ASL interpreter on the stage? Yes. 

Desert Financial Arena is ADA accessible. Guests with mobility impairments will be able to sit in reserved ADA seating with one companion.

Desert Financial Arena’s disabled seating is located on the interior concourse level of the arena. One additional guest may accompany the disabled guest in this area. To ensure disabled seating for all who require accommodation, we kindly request that other guests be seated in the rows directly in front of the designated disabled seating areas. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage all guests to arrive early to avoid waiting in line.

All ceremonies are streamed online for guests who are unable to attend in person. Please visit live.asu.edu to view all ceremonies.

Gift items at the ceremonies

Floral bouquets, orchid leis, commencement t-shirts featuring grad names, branded kukui leis, and other gift items will be available for purchase at the upcoming commencement ceremonies.

Students and guests are encouraged to pre-order for pickup before the ceremony so they can wear their leis on stage and in photos.
