On Sunday, Jan. 6, Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College welcomed to the ASU campus 18 fellows of the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for International Teachers. Fulbright DAI brings international primary and secondary school teachers to the U.S. to observe, pursue individual and group projects, and take courses for professional development.

The MLFTC cohort of educators from around the globe will live on ASU’s Tempe campus through May, immersed in a course of study that includes a Fulbright seminar, a technology course and their choice of two upper-level or graduate audit courses. They will also have opportunities to share their own expertise and experience with other fellows and with ASU students and faculty.

MLFTC’s existing local partnerships will provide field experiences for Fulbright DAI fellows in the Phoenix Union High School and Balsz Elementary School districts. Each fellow will be placed in a local classroom aligned to their content area, where they will engage in 90 hours of classroom observation, co-teaching and school activities, and interact with administrators, teachers and school leaders.

The Fulbright DAI program is one of several international education initiatives administered by the Center for Advanced Studies in Global Education at MLFTC. Others include the Argentina Educator Training Program, Building Leadership for Change through School Immersion (Saudi Arabia), the Exchange Program for Brazilian Awarded Principals, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program (Africa), the West Bank-Gaza Preservice Teacher Education Project and the YouLead–Youth Employment and Business Start Up Program (Sri Lanka).
