Update: Due to the novel coronavirus we are not able to share the same space, but we can still share the same spirit of wellness virtually. Most of our wellness events will now be offered online, including Teatime Tuesdays and Wellness Wednesdays.

“Future educators,” says Jody Pratt, Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College coordinated care strategist, “should consider that they’re public figures.” In an effort to help students create a more professional social media presence the MLFTC Student Success Team offered free professional headshots at one of their new series of events, Student Success Central.

These wellness-themed events focus on one of eight designated dimensions: intellectual, physical, emotional, occupational, social, environmental, financial and spiritual.

Last month’s, centered around occupational wellness and aimed to help prepare students for their future careers with activities, offered the headshots to help students build their online professional persona, says Becca Salay, director of undergraduate student services.

“Although they are still in college, many students are working in or visiting public schools and other educational organizations,” Pratt says.

“We hold these events on different days of the week and times so we can reach and impact as many MLFTC students as possible,” says Michele Gaines, Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College wellness coach. Student Success Central is an outcome of the team’s mission to work more collaboratively, Gaines says.

Each two-hour event aims to “provide students with opportunities to explore and focus on their well-being so they can be more effective at facilitating their future students’ well-being,” says Gaines.

Past Student Success Central events have included physical wellness with an archery activity and emotional wellness with a counselor on-site.
