In the news: Trust between schools and their communities is key as schools reopen
In an op-ed published in The Conversation, Sherman Dorn writes about the importance of trust in our nation’s schools — and how it is continually ignored or overlooked — especially during the pandemic. News coverage, says Dorn, focuses on wearing masks, social distancing in classrooms and ventilation, whereas the topic of trust gets little attention.
As an education historian and professor in the Division of Educational Leadership and Innovation at ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, Dorn believes that if the trust among schools, parents, teachers and communities continues to break down, our nation’s schools could face serious consequences.
