Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College is dedicated to preparing educators for Arizona’s Indigenous communities.

MLFTC is committed to increasing the number of educators in Indian communities across the state of Arizona. Take advantage of the flexible degree programs, learning experience and community educator opportunities offered by the college.

Eligibility

  • Individuals who are enrolled members of a federally recognized tribe. 
  • Individuals interested in teaching in tribal schools in Arizona. 

All students receiving PEIAC funds will be required, after graduation, to teach in a tribal school or a public school that serves a high proportion of American Indian students.

Extended Kin Network educator training

As a non-degree seeking option, PEAIC has created an Extended Kin Network of home and community educators who can benefit from nanocourses, available at education.asu.edu/PEAICnanocourses. These short, engaging, interactive online courses equip parents and community members to help learners and their families prepare for school. Courses are designed to help elementary and secondary aged students.

Nanocourse topics

Nanocourses are on demand 24/7, free to use, and available to Tribal members and non-Tribal individuals who work with Indigenous children. An associate’s degree is not required for participation in the Extended Kin Network. Nanocourse topics include:

  • Writing skills
  • Writing stories (storytelling)
  • Reading aloud
  • Reading comprehension
  • Math concepts
  • Problem solving
  • Mindfulness
  • Self-awareness (self-regulation)
  • Civic character
  • Digital citizenship
  • Goal setting and time management
