Funding Amount: Funding is as follows: 1. Standard Research Grants and Grants for Collaborative Research: Due to budgetary constraints, total direct costs will rarely exceed $400,000. (Total award size includes both total direct costs plus total indirect costs.) The duration is typically for two to three years. 2. Scholars Awards: Due to budgetary constraints, total direct costs will rarely exceed $180,000. (Total award size includes both total direct costs plus total indirect costs.) The duration is typically for one year. 3. Postdoctoral Fellowships: These grants normally provide an annual stipend of $50,000 per year to cover both salary and fringe benefits for a maximum of two years. 4. Conferences and Workshops: STS normally limits support for conferences and workshops to $25,000 (including indirect costs). Expenses (travel, stipends, honoraria, etc.) for attendees should be entered on the Participant Support line of the budget. Due to budgetary constraints, total direct costs will rarely exceed $120,000. (Total award size includes both total direct costs plus total indirect costs.) The maximum duration is typically for two years.
5. Conferences and Workshop Support: Support for conferences and workshops typically do not exceed $25,000 in direct costs. 6. Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants: Due to budgetary limitations, dissertation grants typically do not exceed $10,000 in direct costs for research in North America and $12,500 in direct costs for international research, plus applicable indirect costs.

Overview
<p><span>The Science, Technology, and Society (STS) program supports research that uses historical, philosophical, and social scientific methods to investigate the intellectual, material, and social facets of the scientific, technological, engineering and mathematical (STEM) disciplines. It encompasses a broad spectrum of STS topics including interdisciplinary studies of ethics, equity, governance, and policy issues that are closely related to STEM disciplines, including medical science. This program provides educational opportunities for Graduate Students, both graduate students and academic institutions are eligible to apply.</span></p>
Other Information:<p><span>Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant proposals will have only one deadline per year, August 3rd. The program’s review process is approximately six months; funded in or after January.</span></p>Last Updated:
