Overview

The Institute of International Education invites qualifying scholars to apply to the Scholar Rescue Fund, which provides fellowships for established professors, researchers, and public intellectuals whose lives or careers are threatened in their home countries.
The fellowships, which last up to one academic year, support temporary academic positions at universities, colleges, and research centers in safe locations anywhere in the world where scholars can continue their work unharmed. Fellows are expected to teach, research, or publish at host academic institutions until conditions allow them to return to their home countries.
Established professors, researchers, and public intellectuals from any country, field, or discipline are eligible to apply. Preference is given to scholars who are facing or have recently fled from immediate threats to their lives and/or careers in their home countries or countries of residence; hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in their field with extensive teaching or research at the university level; and demonstrate superior academic accomplishment or promise. Applications from female scholars and scholars who are members of ethnic, racial, cultural, or religious minority groups, or those otherwise underrepresented in their field, are encouraged.
