Overview

Grant-eligible organizations are encouraged to apply for 20 months of funding to conduct a research study to identify promising programs and initiatives that support and develop teachers to take new and varied leadership roles in their schools and districts—and examine the system-level impact that occurs as a result of teacher participation in these promising programs. The Nellie Mae Education Foundation (NMEF) seeks a grant-eligible organization1 to identify and research promising programs that support and develop teachers to take new and varied leadership roles in their schools and districts. The research study should examine how participation in these opportunities impacts teachers’ school systems, including student outcomes. It is anticipated that the current study will investigate student outcomes with larger sample sizes than previous studies have employed. Research questions addressed by this project should include:
• What teacher leadership programs exist that support and develop teachers to take new and varied leadership roles in their schools or districts?
• What are the system-level impacts that occur as a result of teacher participation in these promising programs, including the effects on student outcomes in each teacher’s classroom?
