Overview

Pillars awards grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations working in or closely alongside Muslim communities in the United States. Pillars believes that strong leaders and institutions are key to creating a world where American Muslims can live and thrive with dignity. PILLARS INVESTS in organizations that are driven by and accountable to the communities they serve and that take intersectional approaches that lead with inquiry, bridge-building, and innovation. Pillars has a competitive grant making process that includes a formal application review by our professional program staff and voting by our Board of Trustees.

Our Community Infrastructure Fund makes grants to nonprofit organizations to advance three priorities:

Rights - We support social and policy change efforts that protect and expand the human and civil rights of us all.

Wellness - We support the growth and nurturing of whole, healthy American Muslim communities.

Understanding - We support a range of approaches to amplify American Muslim voices and create a deeper understanding of American Muslims.

Pillars Fund is dedicated to amplifying the leadership, narrative, and talents of American Muslims. Pillars aspires to put an end to bigotry, xenophobia, and other divisive tactics that keep our nation apart. Support is provided to nonprofit organizations throughout the United States that address the following issues: Rights, with a focus on social and policy change efforts that protect and expand the human and civil rights of us all; Wellness, with a focus on the growth and nurturing of whole, healthy American Muslim communities; and Understanding, with a focus on amplifying American Muslim voices and creating a deeper understanding of American Muslims.

If we’ve learned anything this year, it is to expect the unexpected. As we look ahead, we know that the challenges ahead will demand unwavering support and flexibility. This is why we are increasing our commitment to general operating support as our communities build local leadership and organize power. We are excited to support creative cultural projects that are transforming our conversations. And we are intent on nurturing safer spaces and creating avenues for deep healing.

Pillars is often an early funder for many organizations, and we’ve seen how a Pillars grant can have a catalytic effect. As our country continues to struggle toward its promise of liberty and equality for all, we reaffirm our commitment to American Muslim visionaries and community leaders.

Other Information:
We accept idea submissions on a rolling basis. The Pillars Board of Trustees awards grants annually during the first quarter of the year. To be considered for the 2020-21 grant cycle, all organizations should complete an Idea Submission Form by August 1. Our team reads every submission, but we may not have time to reply to them individually. A Pillars staff member will follow up with you if we have additional questions or with a request for more information.
