Kaboom Play Everywhere Challenge

Overview

<p><span>The Play Everywhere Challenge is a $1 million, national competition that will award innovative, replicable ideas that make play easy, available and fun for kids and families. We're looking for creative solutions to make play a way of life in everyday and unexpected places – sidewalks, vacant lots, bus stops, open streets and beyond. </span></p> <p><span>Developed in collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Target, Playworld, the U.S. Department for Housing and Urban Development, and the National Endowment for the Arts, the year-long competition addresses the need for increased play in kids’ lives. Countless studies have shown that play is critical to the well-being of kids, and cities are increasingly recognizing the urgency of designing communities for kids and their families. Too many kids across the U.S. are not getting the balanced and active play they need to thrive, but communities can take significant strides to reduce barriers to play. And now it’s up to you: submit your best ideas for reimagining cities with kids in mind. </span></p> <p><span>We are seeking community-driven ideas and solutions that integrate play into everyday life and unexpected places— sidewalks, laundromats, vacant lots, bus stops, grocery stores, open streets, and beyond. We want to hear your ideas to reimagine existing public spaces as places that can support playfulness and help people think differently about where play can occur. There’s no one-model project - we’re hoping to see ideas that reflect the local context and community they’ll take place in.</span></p>
