Overview

<p>Trustees have identified K-12 education in the U.S. as their primary area of interest and fund projects that directly support building global perspectives in teachers and students. Proposals funded will advance the field or impact significant numbers of students. The foundation is interested in supporting activities that have other sources of funding and can demonstrate sustainability beyond the grant period. There are two relevant tracks to apply to: (a) Internationalizing Teacher Preparation and (b) Innovations in International Education. <br>(a) The foundation will support efforts to expand teachers’ global knowledge and skills. Preference will be given to those teacher preparation institutions that are connected to state or citywide systemic effort in order to have a greater impact and to those using online courses for pre-service education or professional development. Proposed projects are reviewed with particular attention to:<br> •Partnerships & collaborative activities between institutions to further ensure impact and sustainability<br> •Integration of global dimensions into pre-service teacher education, both in pedagogy & subject matter <br> •The number of teacher preparation candidates reached<br> •Assess the impact of strategies on teachers’ ability to integrate global knowledge & skills into practice <br> •Financial support for continuation of activities beyond the grant period to assure sustainability<br> •Participation of both the College of Education and the College Arts and Sciences<br> •Clear commitments to work with the relevant state education agency and/or local school districts <br> •Dissemination plans to encourage replication at other institutions <br>(Grant Range: $10,000 (for single institution grants) - $30,000 (for multi-institution grants)) <br>(b) This program supports strategic, field-building activities that help address gaps in knowledge or capacity. Projects will also be reviewed for their potential to have a broad impact and remain sustainable beyond the grant period. The foundation is particularly interested in the following areas:<br>• Promoting integration of international content into the Common Core implementation process<br>• Bringing international knowledge and skills to out-of-school time programming<br>• Bringing international knowledge and skills to career and technical education <br>• Including international children’s literature in literacy building initiatives <br>• Internationalizing U.S. History resources <br>(Grant Range: $15,000 - $25,000)</p>

Solicitation Limitations: <p><span>The Foundation does not fund: International travel, project work linked to a specific country, projects outside the U.S., projects that reach a small number of students and teachers.</span></p> Other Information:<p><span>If notfied by 2/15/2018 to submit a full proposal-- full proposal deadline will be March 15, 2018. Decisions released by May 11.</span></p>
