Overview

<p>Pasadena Public Library is working as the lead within Growing Together PASadena to ensure all Growing Together Pasadena Sites, and by extension, all Library branches, are highlighting best practices with regard to early literacy, and creating environments that lead to school readiness.</p> <p>We are seeking a Consultant to review all existing storytimes at Pasadena Public Library and Growing Together PASadena sites and then offer evaluations, suggestions for improvement, trainings on best practices, and materials to continue in-house trainings. All work must be conducted within the grant year, which runs through August 31, 2020.</p> <p>A consultant is being sought to evaluate the Library and Growing Together PASadena sites storytime practices. After completing an evaluation of existing storytimes at Pasadena Public Library and Growing Together PASadena sites, the consultant will then train library staff and Growing Together PASadena site staff on how to improve Storytime through an early literacy lens. The consultant will also create tools that can be used after the consultation period for the staff to evaluate, plan and train staff and volunteers for storytimes.</p> <p>Responsibilities include working with staff to plan and schedule the evaluations and trainings, viewing and evaluating a range of storytimes at 13 library branches and 5 Growing Together PASadena sites and developing training materials.</p> <div><strong>Consultant requirements:</strong></div> <ul> <li>Knowledge of early childhood development for ages 0-5</li> <li>Knowledge of early literacy best practices</li> <li>Experience working with library staff, both professional and paraprofessional</li> <li>Experience with training and evaluation of storytimes in a public library setting</li> <li>Understanding of the Five Protective Factors through the Strengthening Families approach is a plus</li> <li>Experience in creating and documenting training tools that can be used for a wide-range of library and non-library staff</li> <li>This is a grant funded project and all project expense and activities must comply with the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant restrictions</li> </ul> <p><strong>Scope of Work:</strong><br>We are seeking a Consultant to review all existing storytimes at Pasadena Public Library and Growing Together PASadena sites and then offer evaluations, suggestions for improvement, trainings on best practices, and materials to continue in-house trainings. All work must be conducted within the grant year, which runs through August 31, 2020.</p> <p>Award will be granted based on consultant experience, prior work with early literacy and child development, ability to deliver within the time frame, and cost.</p> <p><strong>Deliverables:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Information about the importance of storytime that can be used for a brochure (due March 31)</li> <li>Evaluations of current library storytimes (March – June 2020)</li> <li>At least 3 in-person trainings (2 for library staff, 1 for library and non-library staff) (prior to July 31, 2020)</li> <li>Storytime Training Documents (due August 1, 2020)</li> <li>Storytime Evaluation Documents (due August 1, 2020)</li> </ul>

If City of Pasadena business license is not currently held, obtaining one may be required prior to hiring.)"</p>
