Overview

The BLM Arizona Threatened and Endangered Species Program works to conserve and recover Federally-listed and Bureau sensitive animal and plant species and their habitat on public lands.

The Program's Strategic Goals include:

  • Conserving and recovering Federally-listed and BLM sensitive species;
  • Implementing conservation and recovery actions that result in a direct on the ground population or conservation benefit;
  • Providing complete, current and accurate information on the distribution and abundance of BLM Special Status Species and their habitats to increase professional and public knowledge and understanding of these resources;
  • Collecting data and other information to assess threats and species/habitat responses to proactive conservation and recovery efforts for BLM Special Status Species;
  • Increasing public knowledge ofBLM Special Status Species;
  • Increasing public awareness and understanding of BLM Special Status species and their habitats on public and private lands; and,
  • Engaging youth, citizen-scientists, and students in monitoring and directed research of various BLM Special Status species and their habitats.

    

The BLM Arizona Threatened and Endangered Species Program has an opportunity to work with partner organizations to assist with:

  • Contributing to the above-described Program strategic goals;
  • On-the-ground actions that conserve and recover Federally-listed, Bureau sensitive, and rare wildlife and plants, especially pollinators;
  • Targeted inventory and monitoring to determine species status and conservation opportunities;
  • Gaining knowledge about Federally-listed, Bureau sensitive, and rare species and their habitats including, but not limited to, propagation, genetics, ecology and threats;
  • Providing for protection or management of Federally-listed, Bureau sensitive, and rare species and their habitats;
  • Augmenting Federally-listed, Bureau sensitive, and rare species;
  • Increasing program efficiencies and effectiveness in Endangered Species Act Section 7(a)(2) consultations and Section 7(a)(l) conservation programs;
  • Increasing public knowledge of Federally-listed, Bureau sensitive, and rare wildlife and plants on BLM-managed lands, including with a targeted focus on communities of color, low-income families, and rural and indigenous communities; and,
  • Communications including program outreach, education, and Program website updates.

Project must assist BLM in meeting one or more of the Department of Interior priorities, as well as one of the following priorities of the Biden-Harris Administration:

  • Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad
  • Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government
  • Economic Relief Related to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Ensuring the Future is Made in All of America by All of America's Workers

Solicitation Limitations:

All proposed projects submitted under this funding opportunity must state a benefit to the public and must address national effects across the bureau crossing State boundaries.

Other Information:

 

  • The recipient should expect Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to have substantial involvement in the project.
  • Applications will be reviewed, rated, ranked and selected by the following rounds: Open from June 02, 2023, through August 4, 2023. Round One Applications Due: July 14, 2023 Round Two Applications Due: August 4, 2023
  • Agreement terms for funded projects are estimated to range between one and no more than five years.
  • Anticipated Number of Awards: 5
