Two faculty members with Arizona State University's Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College are being recognized for their contributions to the education community.

Wendy Peia Oakes, MLFTC associate professor, is this year’s recipient of the 2024 Faculty Service Achievement Award from the ASU Alumni Association, and she will be recognized during ASU Founders' Day Feb. 21. Amy Markos, MLFTC clinical associate professor, has been named 2023-2024 Outstanding Instructional Faculty Mentor by ASU Graduate College, and she will be formally recognized Feb. 29.

Oakes (PhD, Curriculum and Instruction,‘09) is being recognized by the ASU Alumni Association for her outstanding dedication to students with disabilities. Her work has focused on examining issues of teachers' sense of efficacy, specifically related to comprehensive, integrated, three-tiered (Ci3T) models of prevention, classroom management and evidence-based practices for addressing the needs of children with the most challenging behaviors.

Among her many accomplishments, she was elected president for the Council for Exceptional Children’s Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders and the Division for Research and she serves as associate editor and reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals, including Remedial and Special Education. She has also authored or co-authored over 100 publications and served as an invited speaker for multiple national and international conferences.

Amy Markos is being recognized by ASU Graduate College for her excellence in mentoring graduate students in the category of non-tenure-track faculty.

Every year, the Graduate College recognizes outstanding faculty members for their outstanding service to the graduate student and postdoctoral scholar communities through mentoring excellence, commitment to professional development and career advancement, and fostering inclusive, collaborative academic environments. Markos and other awardees have demonstrated their commitment to providing coaching, modeling and feedback in academic and career development, as well as essential psychosocial and interpersonal connection and support.
