The Education Writers Association announced the 2021 winners of its National Awards for Education Reporting. Erin Richards, editorial director at the Center on Reinventing Public Education, housed at Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, was among the three reporters recognized.

Throughout 2021, Richards reported for USA Today and worked to identify districts on the leading edge of in-person schooling and offer solutions amid the many headlines about chaos. Richards, along with a colleague, launched a two-part accountability project on efforts to find and reintegrate America’s “missing” kids.

The awards advance education journalism by recognizing the field’s best efforts.
