Biography

William W. Deleeuw developed a passion for helping students who have been unsuccessful in algebra while teaching mathematics in the public education system. This passion continues to motivate his research into how these students learn to develop and disseminate curriculum and effective interventions for them.

Professor Deleeuw's work specifically investigates the differences between how both successful and unsuccessful students and their teachers contemplate and utilize algebra and variables. This qualitative study focuses on interviews with students concerning algebraic tasks and how these conceptions and uses may vary between low- and typically achieving students.

Research Interests

DeLeeuw is researching how students think about and use variables . This is a qualitative study focused on interviews with students around algebraic tasks to investigate how they think about and use variables and how these conceptions and uses may vary between low- and typically-achieving students.
