Biography

William W. Deleeuw developed a passion for helping students who have been unsuccessful in algebra while teaching mathematics and physics in the public education system. This passion continues to motivate his research into how these students learn, to develop and disseminate curriculum and effective interventions, and his work to support current teachers' efforts to help these students.

Research Interests

Dr. DeLeeuw is researching how students think about and use variables. This is a qualitative study focused on interviews with students around algebraic tasks to investigate how they think about and use variables and how these conceptions and uses may vary between low- and typically-achieving students.
