Dear Class of 2021 Graduates,

Congratulations! We are looking forward to celebrating your accomplishments. Please read through this information carefully as there are multiple celebration opportunities. You can participate in one or more of the events. Also, pay special attention to registration information and invited audiences. 

Note: This information is specific to Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College graduates ONLY. If you are graduating from a different college, please refer to your individual college’s graduation page.

May 3, 2021 - Virtual Ceremony Events (all programs)

May 3, 2021 will be MLFTC’s virtual convocation celebration day for all graduates

MLFTC Virtual Ceremony Premiere

  • 2021 spring and summer MLFTC graduates

Registration

Graduates must RSVP on Marching Order via the My ASU portal to include a personal photo and quote on their graduation slide.

No registration required to view the ceremony. 

Deadlines for participation

April 21 is the last day to submit photos and quotes to the Marching Order website via the My ASU portal. 

Cap and gown 

Cap and gown are not required for this event as the broadcast is only interactive via chat features on streaming platforms. You are more than welcome to host your own private viewing party with family and friends!!

What will this look like?

The online ceremony will include: 

  • President Michael Crow, conferring all spring and summer 2021 degrees 
  • Dean Carole Basile, addressing the MLFTC Class of 2021
  • MLFTC Outstanding Graduates will provide words of encouragement. The Outstanding Teacher of the Year, Outstanding Residents and Moeur Award winners will all be acknowledged. 
  • All Class of 2021 spring and summer graduates who applied to graduate by the Feb. 15 deadline will have their names read and have a slide with their photo and message (if they choose to submit this prior to the deadline, see below). 
  • The ceremony will be available to view on-demand anytime after the premiere.
How do I participate?

The broadcast will be interactive via the chat features on the following platforms: 

  • YouTube Premiere (links will be sent to graduates prior to the ceremony) 
  • Facebook  (viewable on May 3 on the MLFTC Facebook page)

You are invited to host your own virtual viewing party with your family and loved ones. Your guests can follow along and send words of encouragement via the interactive chat features on the streaming platforms.

Do I need to submit anything for the virtual ceremony?

YES.

If you would like your graduation slide to feature a personal photo and message, you must complete the following steps by April 21:

Step 1 

All ASU graduating students should apply to graduate through their My ASU portal.

Step 2 

Graduates will RSVP for MLFTC’s convocation event via their My ASU portal. Eligible students will receive a link to this website in their ASU email.

Step 3 

If you would like to include a personal message, along with a photo, you can do so through the same site in which you submit your RSVP, via the My ASU portal.

Cap and gown

Encouraged, but not required. This is a casual, open format celebration opportunity to connect with faculty members and staff on your big day!

What will this look like?

  • MLFTC Class of 2021 Virtual Faculty Open House Celebration will be a virtual celebration opportunity for spring and summer 2021 graduates to connect with faculty and staff. 
  • This celebration will be virtual and casual. A list of all participating faculty and staff will be provided to students who register prior to the event.
  • The meeting will offer an opportunity for students to drop in, chat and celebrate with favorite faculty members and staff.

May 4, 2021 - Doctoral Ceremony Events

May 4, 2021 will be MLFTC’s in-person Doctoral Hooding ceremonies.

(EPE and LLT PhD programs ONLY)

MLFTC Ed Lecture Hall and Farmer Atrium, Tempe campus

In-person attendance open to EPE and LLT graduates ONLY

Guests are not permitted at the ceremony. Ceremony will be live streamed.

April 26 is the last day to register for this event.

Masks are required for the entire duration of the event per campus COVID-19 guidelines. 

Parking

Recommended: Lot 3, Gammage parking lot.

What will this look like?

  • This ceremony is open to EPE and LLT students ONLY. 
  • Guests are not permitted.
  • Registration is mandatory for this event.
  • Masks are required for in-person attendees per campus guidelines. 
  • Check-in will be staggered to promote social distancing.
  • Graduates will need to indicate the faculty hooder they would like to invite for the ceremony. 
  • Ceremony will follow all University event COVID-19 protocol. 
  • Graduates, faculty members and staff will be socially distanced in the Ed Lecture Hall for the one-hour ceremony. 
  • A small socially-distanced reception will follow the ceremony in the Farmer Atrium Courtyard.
  • This event will also be live-streamed.

Hooding Ceremony No. 2

(Leadership and Innovation program EdD students ONLY)

May 4, 4:00–6 p.m. (AZ time)

In-person attendance open to Leadership and Innovation graduates ONLY

Guests are not permitted at the ceremony. This ceremony will be live streamed.

Registration is required for Leadership and Innovation graduates planning to attend the in-person ceremony.

  • Graduates will hear congratulatory remarks from MLFTC leadership. 
  • Graduates will have their names read aloud, walk onto the Lecture Hall stage, give a quick thanks to the audience at home, take a photo and receive an MLFTC diploma cover. 
  • Graduates will have additional photo opportunities in the Farmer Atrium.

May 6, 2021 - Bachelor's Celebration Events

Additional info

Appointments are strongly encouraged. Walk-ups will be available based on availability and keeping with social distancing practices.

Bring your cap and gown or favorite outfit. You will have the option to use one of these images for your virtual commencement free of charge.

After the photo session, you will receive your photo proofs via email with instructions on how to select one of these images for your virtual commencement. In addition, you will receive a coupon for a complimentary 5x7 print from Arizona State University.

Diploma covers:

Diploma covers will be distributed at in-person celebrations or shipped to graduates who request a cover. Please read through the details below:

  1. I am attending an in-person celebration opportunity ---> You do not need to request a diploma cover online because you will receive one at the in-person celebration. 

  2. I am unable to attend an in-person celebration opportunity

    1. I am an MLFTC bachelor’s or master’s graduate ---> Please use this diploma cover request form. 

    2. I am an MLFTC doctoral graduate ----> Please email commence-rsvp@asu.edu to request a doctoral diploma cover.

Honor cords: 

If you are an undergraduate student who is eligible for academic honors (Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Summa Cum Laude), the university will mail them to your Diploma Address. For more information about honors cords please visit the ASU Graduation site.
