All ASU ceremonies, including our Convocation, are subject to the university's clear bag policy.

Filing/applying for graduation tells the university that you plan to graduate at the end of the semester and have all of the credits and coursework completed to qualify. You must file for graduation through MyASU ("Graduation" tab in the "My Programs and eAdvisor" box) or in the Graduation Office (SSV, 1st floor) by the deadline, (February 15 for spring graduation, June 15 for summer, October 1 for fall graduation), in order for your name to appear in the commencement program. Graduation fees:

  • Undergraduate degree: $50 ($25 for each additional concurrent degree)
  • Graduate degree: $50 ($25 for each additional concurrent degree)
  • Late fee, if applicable: $35
  • Duplicate diploma fee: $35

Graduation letter request form

Use the Graduation Letter Request Form to request a Graduation Pending Letter, Letter of Completion, or a Letter of Invitation from the Graduation Office. Remember that you must apply for graduation first before any graduation letters may be able to be processed for you. Request forms can be submitted to any of the four University Registrar's Office campus locations. Please allow 2 full business days (48 hours) for processing.

Graduation attire

Graduates are required to wear the official maroon ASU cap and gown during the convocation ceremony.  More information on dressing for graduation may be found at: https://graduation.asu.edu/graduates/dressing. To ensure color consistency, please contact the ASU bookstore to purchase your cap and gown. Deep discounts on graduation items (including cap, gown, tassel, and hood) are available during the Graduation Fair the bookstore holds on each campus during the spring and fall semesters. Additional information on the Graduation Fair can be found on the ASU Bookstore site.

Honor cords are worn by undergraduate degree candidates to designate high academic achievement. To qualify and be awarded an honor cord to wear during Commencement and convocation, students must complete 56 or more hours of resident work at ASU in addition to maintaining the appropriate grade point average (see below). A student's GPA at the end of the previous semester determines eligibility for honor cords. Diplomas reflect the appropriate honors for all course work completed at ASU, including the semester prior to graduation. If you are eligible for an honor cord, you may pick it up at the registrar's office at any campus.

  • summa cum laude: 3.80-4.00 GPA (maroon and gold cord)
  • magna cum laude: 3.60-3.79 GPA (gold cord)
  • cum laude: 3.40-3.59 GPA (maroon cord)

Register to attend convocation ceremony (RSVP)

Students RSVP through My ASU after applying for graduation. When filling out the RSVP form, please indicate the number of guests you expect to attend. Tickets are not required, but seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Guests are not permitted to save seats.

PLEASE NOTE: If someone else "helps you out" and fills out this form for you, the reader card name that is printed will be their name. Also, if you "auto-populate" the fields, the information may populate incorrectly.

Tickets are not required for guests and guest seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The doors to Wells Fargo Arena will open to the public one hour prior to the ceremony start time.

PLEASE NOTE: Only graduates and working staff are permitted on the floor of the arena, the field at Sun Devil Stadium and specified locations at other venues.

Length of ceremony

The ceremony is approximately 120 minutes long in the spring and approximately 90 minutes in the fall. If you are planning a celebration after the ceremony, don't forget to account for the time it will take you to get out of the arena. There will be few thousand happy family members leaving at the same time you are.

See campus map. Complimentary guest parking will be available in Lot 59.
