Biography

Stuart has been a proud member of Sun Devil Nation since 2012. Before joining Arizona State as a Ph.D. student in the Teachers College, he held various roles in public sector consulting and for-profit career education.

Stuart's current work at ASU involves finding new pathways for individuals and organizations to access the knowledge capital of the Teachers College. He has held positions of Executive Coordinator in Access ASU and Project Manager and Creative Design Lead at EdPlus. Stuart is also a Ph.D. candidate in the Teachers College, with a dissertation focused on parental memories of learning and their relationship to patterns of acceptance and resistance to formal structures of schooling.

In his public sector consulting roles, Stuart worked on projects that provided work process documentation and reporting resources to Ohio child support enforcement employees via an intranet (1998); system development for the states of Ohio, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania (1998 - 2001); and project management and independent validation and verification for the State of California (2001 - 2004). He managed over a million dollars in deliverables within state and Federal procurement and project management guidelines. Stuart also supported numerous business development efforts, including proposal development and presentations to high-level public stakeholders.

Stuart left public sector consulting to pursue an interest in teaching adults. For seven years he worked at a small career college with curriculums in allied health and legal services. Through that switch, Stuart developed an appreciation for the multiple barriers faced by adult learners and first-generation college students and created numerous academic support structures to increase their success. In addition to teaching, coaching, and mentoring learners, he developed numerous structures to support the teaching excellence of the faculty. Stuart supported several accreditation-related activities, including new program creation and submission, program reviews, and reaccreditation processes. At the time of his departure from the career college, he held the role of VP of Research and Development with a mandate of discovering and integrating learning technologies.
