Biography
Scotty D. Craig is an associate professor of human systems engineering within The Polytechnic School of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University. Craig has studied emotion and learning, discourse processing, multimedia learning, vicarious learning environments, and intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) in both laboratory and applied classroom settings.
Craig has established two active labs while at Arizona State University. He is director of the Cognitive-Based Applied Learning Technology (CoBALT) Lab which conducts cutting edge research at the intersection of human cognition, technology, and the learning sciences which can provide solutions to real world problems within education and training. He is also co-director of the DoD Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative Partnership Lab at Arizona State University. Current projects examine virtual humans for learning and training, music on the web, effectiveness of electronic textbooks for learning, and applications of ITS to training within virtual worlds, classrooms, and after-school settings.
His publications related to the aforementioned disciplines are extensive with career contributions comprising over 100 primary publications (i.e., articles, proceedings, book chapters, and edited books). Fourty-five of these publications have resulted from work conducted at ASU. Specifically, his ASU scholarly output includes 15 journal articles, 20 conference proceedings, two journal special issues with published editorials, seven book chapters, and nine conference presentations. This work is disseminated in high quality peer-reviewed outlets. Three articles have appeared in Computers and Education (#1 Social Science journal by Google Scholar Metrics). His 2015 paper in Journal of Educational Computing Research was in the Top 10 Most Read Articles list for 2016 (ranked #1 for August to October) and is currently listed as the #1 cited paper in the Journal for the last three years. He has edited Three books: "Readings in Training and Simulation," Vol. 2 with Dee Andrews (2015, Human Factors and Ergonomics Society),"End-User Considerations for Educational Technology Design" with Rod Roscoe and Ian Douglas (2017, IGI Global) and "Tutoring and Intelligent Tutoring Systems" (2018, Nova Science).
