Biography

Robert C. Kleinsasser is a teacher educator whose scholarly interests include the sociology of teachers and learners. He currently serves as Book Review Editor of The Journal of Educational Research and Associate Editor of Teaching and Teacher Education An International Journal of Research and Studies. He was appointed to the Fulbright Specialist Roster (2013-2018) and has already served on a program in Hanoi, Vietnam. His scholarly research areas focus on teacher education issues including learning environments & school cultures; pedagogy; second language acquisition; online teaching, professional development, & group interactions; second language testing & assessment; teacher education & wickedity; and teacher educator work. He is a member of the graduate faculty PhD interdisciplinary area committees in applied linguistics and learning, literacies & technologies. He has given international plenary, keynote, and invited papers in Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Oman, Thailand, and Vietnam since arriving at ASU. Kleinsasser currently works with an ASU colleague on analyzing online group work interactions. He also engages with colleagues at the University of Colorado, University of Indiana, and the University of Texas to consider professional development for online instruction regarding foreign and second language acquisition, learning, and teaching. Kleinsasser continues to study as a teacher educator through narrative inquiry, while also working with colleagues in Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand concerning data sets that deal with professional development of languages educators (both pre- and in-service).

Research Interests

Guiding Research Questions:

  • How can online group work be facilitated among students in a short 7 � week time period?
  • What are the features of salient (teacher education) professional development (face-to-face and online)? 
  • What are the tasks and knowledge base(s) for teacher educators in teacher education?

Current Research Projects:

Dr. Kleinsasser works with an ASU colleague on analyzing online group work interactions where they consider antecedents to salient online interactions and how students successfully and unsuccessfully interact when completing online group projects.

He also works with colleagues at the University of Colorado, University of Indiana, and University of Texas to consider professional development for online instruction regarding foreign and second language acquisition, learning, and teaching. 

Dr. Kleinsasser continues to study a teacher educator through narrative inquiry, while also working with colleagues in Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand concerning data sets concerning professional development of languages educators (both pre- and in-service).
