Sarah Polasky

Sarah Polasky, PhD

Executive Director

Dr. Polasky leads the Research Opportunity Development and Advancement team and provides strategic guidance and administrative support to faculty and staff developing and submitting proposals for funded projects. Sarah identifies funding opportunities and works to match solicitations to the research goals of faculty and staff. She assists with monitoring college efforts, project statuses, and reporting for college and university requests. Sarah also works with faculty and staff from other departments to coordinate and advance interdisciplinary efforts. Sarah is a member of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals, the National Council of University Research Administrators, the Society of Research Administrators International, the American Educational Research Association, the American Evaluation Association, and the Arizona Educational Research Organization. She holds a BS in psychology, as well as an MA and a PhD in educational psychology with a concentration in lifespan developmental psychology. Prior to joining RODA, Sarah worked on a variety of local, state, and federally funded research and evaluation projects.

Howard Bergman

Howard Bergman, CRA

Director of Research Advancement

Howard leads the proposal preparation and submission team for government, corporate and foundation research opportunities. He interacts with senior internal and external personnel on significant technical matters and strategic decisions to develop policies and procedures that follow university, state and federal laws and guidelines. Howard assists in the resolution of complex research issues (both pre- and post-award) and conducts training sessions in research-related areas. Howard is a member of the National Council of University Research Administrators and the American Association of University Administrators. He holds a BA in psychology and has earned the designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA).

JulieAnna Carsen

Grant Support Specialist, Sr.

 JulieAnna provides pre-award grant support services to assist faculty and staff with strategic proposal construction and funding development. Before joining the RODA team, she developed, administered and secured funding for a wide variety of tribal and city government projects and programs in southwest Arizona. JulieAnna leverages her experience in government, public relations, and international mass communications strategy to conduct sponsor intelligence analysis and develops tailored grant writing resources and messaging for research faculty within Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College. Additionally, she conducts strategic solicitation searches aligned with individual faculty research agendas, copyediting and framing services, and assists faculty with interpreting, analyzing and effectively responding to reviewer feedback. JulieAnna is a certified Grant Professional (GPC) through the Grant Professional Certification Institute.

Bernadette Pabillare

Bernadette Pabillare

Research Advancement Administrator, Sr.

Bernadette’s primary responsibility is the development, preparation and submission of sponsored projects proposals to various funding agencies. This includes assisting faculty in areas such as: proposal preparation; budget development; and resolving complex administrative issues related to conflicts of interest, allowability of proposed costs, cost sharing, F&A waivers, subcontracting, intellectual property, and institutional review board applications. She is a member of the National Council of University Research Administrators and holds a BS in organizational management.

Cyna is the administrative assistant with the Research Opportunity Development and Advancement office were she assist the team with grant summaries, data entry, and scheduling. She currently supports the RODA team as well as faculty and staff at the Polytechnic campus. Prior to joining the RODA team she worked at Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College preschool. Cyna has a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Studies and is currently working on her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Curriculum.

Jeannie Wilson

Jeannie Wilson

Grant Support Specialist

Jeannie will provide grant support in a number of ways and help increase our opportunity development efforts. Jeannie has a BA in English and a Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language. She taught ESL at Northern Arizona University and online in China, and was a freelance editor for several years. Jeannie joined ASU’s Knowledge Enterprise Development team in 2017 to create a proposal editing service for faculty, which has become very successful and received excellent reviews. These experiences created a strong foundation to expand and improve her pre-award services. She is available to meet with faculty and staff interested in writing grants, conduct solicitation searches, edit and frame narratives to ensure adherence to funder expectations, assist with interpreting reviewer feedback for proposal revision and resubmission, and develop award implementation resources for the college.
