Dean Basile talks about teacher qualifications to KJZZ

Carol Basile spoke to KJZZ’s Mark Brodie about the Arizona Senate’s passage of SB1042, which would ease state qualifications and allow uncertified professionals to become teachers.

"To walk out of one field and into education is very difficult. Part of the difficulty is understanding students and who they are today, and all the complexity that comes when you look at a class of 25 or 30 kids and the different learning abilities and levels and issues around special needs. And I think it is also the ability to translate what they know to the level of kids; to be able to teach it and assess it and understand how to teach it in a way that makes sense; to create the curriculum — all those things that we talk about as the art and science of teaching." (Dean Carole Basile)
