Biography

Originally from Michigan, Mark has lived in the Phoenix metropolitan area since 1981. He completed a doctorate in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Language and Literacy in 2003 from the College of Education at Arizona State University. He has been teaching in the Initial Teacher Certification Program at ASU since 2001. Mark has had a wide variety of educational and teaching experiences, ranging from working with 3 year-olds at a pre-school, teaching in elementary and high schools, assisting dropouts to attain their GEDs, working with incarcerated juvenile offenders, and teaching graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Education. He also worked at the Arizona Department of Education and at the Arizona Science Center.

Research Interests include: Gender and Literacy, Reading, Language and Literacy, Pre-service Teacher Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Content Area Literacy, Adolescent Literacy
