Biography

Kelly Iva Owen is an assistant clinical professor at Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University. She started her teaching career in downtown Phoenix, Arizona as a special education teacher for both Montessori and traditional public schools. She began working at Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College in 2011 as a site coordinator, overseeing student teachers in their senior year residency (SYR), as well as teaching various elementary methods courses within teacher preparation. She is the course coordinator for the elementary education social studies methods course. She has presented on innovative technology integration practices within teacher education at various conferences. She is dedicated to preparing teacher candidates who understand and prioritize the needs of elementary and middle school students. She is working with a group of colleagues interested in supporting technology integration into elementary and middle school classrooms during SYR.

Research Interests

I am working with a group of colleagues who are interested in supporting technology integration into elementary and middle school classrooms during Senior Year Residency (SYR).  We are developing professional developments for mentor teachers and teacher candidates. 

 

Guiding research questions: 

  • How can integration of technology increase project-based or problem-based lessons in elementary and middle school classrooms?
