Biography
Jennifer A. Clausen was hired as a clinical assistant professor in the InMAC program at Arizona State University in 2013 and has since taken an interest in further developing alternative certification pathway programs in the Teachers College. She currently works with TEL 101 faculty and the office of retention to facilitate faculty at Camp Teach. This program centers on incoming freshmen students in the Teachers College and aims to develop their sense of self-efficacy and worth from their first semester of enrollment.
Professor Clausen received a bachelor's degree in secondary education in 2005, and a master's of education from ASU in 2008. She taught world literature and world history to freshmen in Gilbert, Arizona during this time. In 2009, she returned to ASU full-time to pursue a doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in language and literacy. She completed her doctorate in 2013. Professor Clausen's dissertation research focused on the language, identity, and discourse of recovering alcoholics in Alcoholics Anonymous and the role of literacy in sobriety. This research concentrated on the experiences of adult learners in a non-school setting.

Research Interests
Guiding Research Questions:
- How can we support literacy development in the communities of the schools our students serve?
- How can we further develop alternative certification programs to recruit members of different industries to transition to teaching?
Current Projects:
Clausen currently works with TEL 101 faculty and the office of retention to facilitate faculty at Camp Teach. This program focuses on freshmen students who have declared with the Teachers College, and aims to develop their sense of self-efficacy and worth within the college from their first semester of enrollment. Clausen also currently coordinates TEL 504, SED 511, SED 522, and SED 501. These courses are all part of the program of study for MAC and InMAC students.
