Iveta Silova

Iveta Silova

Director and Professor

Iveta Silova holds a PhD in comparative education and political sociology from the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, Columbia University, USA. Before joining academia, Iveta has worked as an education researcher and adviser for various international organizations and spent seven years living and working in Central Asia (Kazakhstan), the Caucasus (Azerbaijan), and Belarus. Her long-term goal is to continue to bridge the traditional theory/practice dichotomy by maintaining close collaborations with international agencies, NGOs, and education institutions. Iveta’s publications cover a range of issues critical to understanding post-socialist education transformation processes, including gender equity, minority/multicultural education, policy borrowing, childhood studies, and the implications of privatization reforms for public education. She is a Board member of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) and a co-editor (with Noah W. Sobe) of a quarterly, peer-reviewed journal entitled, European Education: Issues and Studies (published by Taylor & Frances).

Aryn Baxter

Aryn Baxter

Director of the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program and Assistant Research Professor

Aryn Baxter holds a PhD in Comparative and International Development Education from the University of Minnesota’s College of Education and Human Development and has lived and worked extensively in East Africa. Much of her work has focused on the operation of international scholarship programs and the lived experiences of transnationally mobile students. She seeks to advance the transformative potential of international higher education through her work at the intersection of international education and international development.

Ann Nielsen

Ann Nielsen

Associate Director

Ann Nielsen’s interests in education and research have focused upon teacher professionalism, teacher leadership and school leadership. Ann has been in education since 1996, dedicating her work to teachers and administrators that work with at-risk student populations. She has presented nationally and internationally on topics related to teacher effectiveness, school leadership effectiveness, teacher professionalism and teacher identity. Ann recently served in the role as the Arizona TAP Director in the Arizona Ready for Rigor Grant where she supported grant initiatives in 59 schools across Arizona. Ann has an undergraduate degree in Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley. She received her graduate degrees from Arizona State University holding a master's degree in elementary education and a doctorate in educational leadership and supervision.

Alejandra Enriquez

Alejandra Enriquez

Program Manager

Alejandra has managed multiple projects for the center. Most recently she has managed the India Support for Teacher Education Program (In-STEP) and the Next Generation Leaders Program. Prior to joining ASU, Enriquez served as State director of English language programs for Elementary School and director of the Education Sonora -Arizona Institute within the Secretariat of Education and Culture for the state of Sonora, Mexico. Enriquez has 28 years experience in education. She taught in Mexico, Chile and the U.S. and studied in England, Chile, Ecuador and the U.S. Her teaching interests focus in the areas of teacher education, English as a Foreign Language and bilingualism, Educational technologies and Global Education. She is a former president of MEXTESOL, the Mexican Association of Teachers of English for Speakers of Other Languages. Alejandra holds a Bachelor's in Science from Tecnologico de Monterrey, a Master's in Bilingual Education from the University of Arizona and a Master's in Education Technology from Northern Arizona University.

Yvette Ruppert

Yvette Ruppert

Coordinator

Yvette has extensive experience in customer service and administration. Before coming to the Center, she worked as a Marketing Specialist for a local charter school district. She assisted the school district in the coordination of marketing events, creation of newsletters and increasing enrollment for the schools. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Arizona State University. .
