Welcome to the Center for Advanced Studies in Global Education!

Iveta SIlova Professor and Director Center for Advanced Studies in Global EducationThis academic year promises to be busy and exciting. In the spring, we will launch several new programs.  In January, 16 educators from seven different countries have joined us for a semester-long initiative as part of the ‘International Leaders in Education Program’ (ILEP). In February, we will be welcoming a group of 52 educators, and their families, from Saudi Arabia as they join us for a year as part of the ‘Building Leadership for Change through School Immersion Program.’ We will also host 29 public school principals from Brazil for an intensive 10-day exchange program in March. We hope that you will have an opportunity to meet our visiting colleagues and get to know each other during their stay at ASU!

Our center serves as a hub of internationalization and global engagement at Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University, aiming to internationalize scholarship, teaching and service. We strive to advance research and foster innovations that address issues of education quality and equity through collaborative networks across geographic, cultural and disciplinary boundaries. As we explore answers to global education and sustainability challenges, we aim to foster partnerships based on a reciprocal and multidirectional flow of knowledge between the “global” and the “local,” as well as among theory, policy and education practice. The goal is to transcend the traditional north-south and research-practice boundaries of education knowledge production.

Please mark your calendars for the February 21st event as we welcome the former President of Latvia, Dr. Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, for a talk “Globalization and Culture: National Heritage, Memory, Identity.” CASGE is happy to co-sponsor this event with the Barrett Honors College, which is hosting Dr. Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga as a scholar in residence under the Distinguished Global Leader Series.

Finally, we also look forward to launching new initiatives to further internationalize research and curriculum, as well as increase our student and faculty mobility. Please stay tuned and visit our website for news and details of upcoming events and follow us on Facebook to keep up with news about our programs, upcoming events and fellowship opportunities.

We look forward to working with you!
