The Bachelor of Arts in Education in Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education prepares you to work with children, birth to age 8 or grade 3, in both general education and special education settings. You'll focus on child development and the best practices in early childhood education, including the skills to assess, monitor and report the progress of children with and without disabilities or developmental delays. You'll also learn techniques and approaches to involve family members in the growth and development of young children. This program offers a full, structured English immersion endorsement to work with English language learners and provides extensive experiences in integrating technology into teaching. This program also provides professional experience in both general education and special education classrooms before you graduate.

This degree qualifies you for Arizona educator certification in:

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Early Childhood Special Education, Birth–age 8 or grade 3

Junior year
You’ll intern part-time in a general education and special education preschool classroom. 

Senior year
You’ll complete a full-time, year-long residency working as part of a K–3 team in a partner school. 

Every team works with the support of a certified lead teacher and an ASU faculty member called a site lead, introducing you to more modes of professional collaboration and problem-solving while offering you as much support as possible.
