Biography

Christopher Smudde obtained his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Iowa, specializing in Language Arts, and his Master's in Education from Arizona State University with a specialization in Secondary Education. He completed his Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Innovation from Northern Arizona University.

Dr. Smudde's passion lies in working to improve the teacher preparation process, specifically for secondary education instructors, through technology infusion and other innovative best practices for 21st-century classrooms. He is the Program Coordinator for the Secondary Education program and chair of the student advisory committee which discusses and creates various resources for the students and faculty. He works with his colleagues on program alignment, curriculum updates, and other objectives in the college. The student advisory committee hosts professional development workshops including NES Preparation Seminars twice per semester.

Research Interests

Guiding Research Questions:

  • How can we best prepare Secondary Education teachers for increasingly diverse student populations?  
  • How do we recognize and display professionalism in our working relationships with students, colleagues, and Administrators?  
  • How can we utilize technology to transform teaching and learning in Secondary Education classrooms?  

Current Research Projects:

  • Christopher Smudde has been researching undergraduate preservice teachers' entrance into the profession and how experiences through schooling have influenced one's decision to decide to become a teacher.  
  • As a Program Coordinator for the Secondary Education program, Christopher is working with colleagues on program alignment, curriculum updates, and other objectives in the college.  
  • As a Program Coordinator, Christopher Smudde also chairs the Student Advisory Committee that discusses and creates various resources for the students and faculty.  They also host professional development workshops including NES Preparation Seminars twice per semester.
