Biography

Brenda M. Collins is a mathematics education lecturer in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University. She focuses on training future educators in algebra and geometry with a real-world, heuristic learning approach using manipulatives and contemporary technology. Collins is passionate about teacher preparation in mathematics methods courses. She utilizes manipulatives, both real and virtual, to prepare preservice teachers. Collins engages pre-service math students with an approach that illuminates teaching philosophies and provides deep and meaningful comprehension of mathematics. She is proud to serve as a clinical instructor supervising teachers in the field in the teacher college's InMac program. Collins taught mathematics and tennis for 23 years in middle and high schools located in both Texas and Arizona. She coached softball and tennis for 14 seasons, earning accolades and championships at the junior varsity and varsity levels. Collins earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics education from Arizona State University and holds a master's degree in mathematics education from Northern Arizona University.
