Lisa joins the Next Education Workforce team with over twenty years of experience teaching and leading in a wide variety of school settings. As a Senior Program Strategist with the Next Education Workforce, Lisa works in close collaboration with elementary school partners to build models of schooling based on teams of educators with distributed expertise who together provide deeper and personalized learning for ALL students. Lisa joined MLFTC in June 2018 as part of the Design Initiatives team, where she led the district-university design partnership that resulted in the SPARK School at Kyrene de las Manitas. Lisa started her career as a secondary English teacher in Los Angeles, followed by two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines, where she nurtured relationships with her community, developed advanced proficiency in the local language and conducted teacher training seminars modeling effective instructional strategies. Upon her return to her home state of Arizona, Lisa earned her reading specialist endorsement and taught English, reading and ELL classes at the high school and community college levels. When her kindergartner enrolled in a charter Montessori, Lisa became an avid proponent of learner-centered education and embarked on Montessori training. For six years, Lisa led an upper elementary classroom of learners ranging from ages eight to thirteen, and she experienced the deep partnership with families and learners that emerged by teaching students for multiple years. Lisa has a Masters of Education degree from UCLA and a BA in English from the University of San Diego.
