Biography

Cindy Ballantyne serves as program manager for the Arizona Teachers Academy and clinical assistant professor for the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College. Her education career began at Kyrene Aprende Middle School as an 8th grade Language Arts teacher. She began working in higher education at Arizona State University where she has supervised teacher candidates since 2004 in the areas of Elementary Education, Early Childhood and Special Education. She has received several Sun Awards for her commitment to fostering improvement within the iTeachAZ program as well as an award for Outstanding Faculty Involvement from Northern Arizona University. She presented at local and national conferences regarding topics on improving literacy education. She has worked as a consultant for Educate International supporting students as they enter the American University system. 

She has served on numerous projects for the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College. A few of the projects include writing mentor training modules, creating online modules for the Secondary Education internship course, incorporating the teacher inquiry cycle into coursework, creating products and resources associated with the TAP rubric for use by faculty and mentor teachers and promoting the iTeach program by participating in an ASU Now Video. She also served as course cordinator for the student teaching course and volunteered as a member on the Recruitment Advisory Board. 

She has served the role of site coordinator in the following grants:

  • PDS Next Project. Teacher Quality Partnership Grant. U.S. Department of Education.
  • Planting the SEED: Engaging, Educating, and Advancing Teachers in STEM and Common Core. U.S. Department of Education.
  • Integrating STEM Literacy and Language to Prepare All Teachers to Teach English Language Learners: iTeach ELLs. Teacher Quality Partnership Grant application. U.S. Department of Education.
