Biography

Carlyn D. Ludlow has been a classroom teacher, an associate professor and program chair, an assistant dean, and a research/curriculum consultant for schools, businesses, and government agencies during her tenure in education. Professor Ludlow has been recognized by districts, state agencies, and private corporations for her research, publications, and presentations in these areas. She is a twice honored university faculty member of the year and a recipient of a university distinguished contribution award. Since joining the faculty team at Arizona State University, Professor Ludlow successfully led the Teachers College implementation of the LEAD (Learn, Explore, Advance, Design) project, the redesign of the lower division curriculum, the conception and implementation of learning community cohorts for first and second-year teacher education students, and is currently spearheading the curricular and structural redesign of the undergraduate teacher preparation programs. She is researching initiatives that promote success for first-year full-time freshman in the teachers’ college and she and her team are also researching ways for sophomores to feel connected to the college and the field of education through civic engagement while advancing future educators’ knowledge and skills.

Research Interests

Current Research Projects:

Ludlow is researching initiatives that promote success for first year full-time freshman in the Teachers College. A current initiative, the L.E.A.D. project, is a cohort-based program model with a case management approach for students entering the Teachers College. 

As part of team of Teachers College faculty and staff, they are developing an initiative to support sophomores as they transition from their first to second year in the Teachers College. The team is researching ways for sophomores to feel connected to the college and the field of education through civic engagement while advancing future educators knowledge and skills.
