studentsThe Leadership for Changing Times (LCT) Doctor of Education (EdD) degree program in higher and postsecondary education (HED) prepares intellectual leaders for the academy, with a unique emphasis on serving diverse communities at two- and four-year colleges and universities. Using a researcher/practitioner model, the program focuses on the application of concepts, techniques, and skills necessary to prepare professionals for leadership roles in the higher education community. It is a 36-month cohort fee-based program. The EdD is based at the Arizona State University-Tempe campus. Coursework is delivered on-campus, off-site, and online.

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR FALL 2010

Admission to this program is a two-part process involving applications to both the Graduate College and and the program. Application review takes place January 15, 2010 Admission into the program is competitive. Applications not received by the priority deadline may not be reviewed. Please revisit web periodically for updates. Applications submitted after June 30, 2010 will incur a late fee.

Program applicants are evaluated on the following:

  • A master's degree in a higher and postsecondary education-related field; candidates with degrees in outside areas may be considered
  • At least three years' full-time experience in higher/postsecondary education leadership positions or similar roles in other types of organizations
  • GPA (minimum 3.0 required in both undergraduate and graduate coursework)
  • Professional statement, which defines your research and career aspirations, and demonstrates an understanding of trends in higher and postsecondary education
  • Current resume or vita
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • A professional self-authored writing sample (e.g. master’s thesis, article submitted for publication, thematic essay or a report submitted by you as a result of a project you directed
  • Finalists will interview with the program director and available admission committee members.
  • Earn a Doctor of Education without major disruption from employment status;
  • All coursework and dissertation completed in three years (36 months);
  • Curriculum blends on-campus, offsite and online learning that utilizes the benefits of these learning models (face-to-face interaction and flexibility);
  • Offers a unique opportunity for students to participate in site visits to a variety of models of higher education institutions;
  • Learn from accomplished practitioners and distinguished scholars throughout the ASU campus and innovative leaders and practitioners locally and throughout the country;
  • A cohort-based model with a cohesive, integrated curricular structure;
  • Exposure to a variety of research focused on organizational change, diverse student learning models, and student transitions between educational levels and institutions;
  • Engagement in research/inquiry methods which address emerging changes or developing paradigm shifts in the field.
