TEACH+ME (MEd plus teacher certification)

TEACH+ME
(Teacher Education And Certification Highway + Masters in Education)

is a self-paced post-baccalaureate/Master's program for individuals with baccalaureate degrees who are interested in achieving elementary (K-8) teaching certification. Teacher candidates learn effective teaching strategies in a range of classroom experiences, and they are active participants in their development as teachers. Candidates also participate in teaching experiences with mentor teachers and students in designated urban schools.

Information sessions

Please contact Robin Boyle, (480) 965-4854 to register for an information session describing the program and admission requirements. A session is held each week – alternating an evening or morning time – in the Farmer Education building on the Tempe Campus.

Program features

The TEACH+ME program leads to the following:

  • An Institutional Recommendation from ASU for Elementary (K-8) Certification.
  • The option to work as a full-time teacher while completing the M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration in Elementary Education.

The structure of the program includes:

  • A program that may be completed on a part-time or full-time basis.
  • Course scheduling that permits the candidate to complete certification requirements in as little as one calendar year.
  • Classes scheduled primarily Monday-Thursday (approximately 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM) in 9-week sessions with an additional full-day Saturday for some classes.
  • Required field experience in classrooms in designated urban schools (minimum 32 hours each 9 week semester).
  • 18 weeks of student teaching with classes scheduled one evening during this semester.

Cost

Because the TEACH+ME program is built into two 9-week sessions, there is a cost benefit if a candidate chooses to participate full-time. After enrollment in 7 or more graduate credits, per semester, the in-state tuition costs remain the same Consult the ASU Student Business Services website for the current fee schedule.

Scholarships are available from both the college as well as from the ASU Graduate College and the ASU Student Financial Assistance offices. Please visit the college scholarship webpage for details. The Federal Government also offers loan forgiveness programs for students preparing to be teachers – consult our scholarship webpage for more information.

Field experience & student teaching

Candidates must participate in classrooms each semester prior to student teaching, and student teaching is a full-time 18-week teaching commitment with an assigned mentor teacher. Information sessions are scheduled that focus on this aspect of the program.
