- Cohort Programs - Master of Education (MEd)
Not only can an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction be obtained through the off-campus cohort program, but the requirements for several endorsements are embedded within many of them. Our cohorts meet many of the requirements for the English as a Second Language Endorsement, Bilingual Endorsement K-8, Reading Specialist Endorsement, Gifted Education Endorsement, and the Early Childhood Endorsement. Endorsements vary by cohort. For more information on endorsement requirements see: State Department of Education Endorsement Listings

Program of Study
A minimum of thirty hours of course work approved by the Graduate Committee are required. The official Program of Study (POS) should be approved during the first semester of study. The "Petition for Course Changes to the Graduate Program of Study" form is used to make changes in the POS after an approved POS has been filed with the Division of Graduate Studies. The forms are available on the Division of Graduate Studies website.
Time limit
All requirements for the MEd degree must be completed within a six-year time period. Courses completed more than six-years prior to the end of the semester when all course work and the applied project for the degree are completed cannot be included in the 30 hours listed on the Program of Study.
Prior earned credit
A maximum of nine hours of credit (non-degree hours) earned prior to MEd program admission may be included in the Program of Study, when approved by the student's Graduate Program Chair.
Transfer credit
A maximum of six semester hours of credit earned at other institutions, when approved by the student's Graduate Program Chair, may be included in the 30-semester hour Program of Study. Only resident graduate courses with "A" and "B" grades may be transferred. Courses with the grade of Pass, Credit or Satisfactory cannot be transferred. (A maximum of 12 semester hours of credit may be completed at ASU-West with the student's Graduate Program Chair's prior approval provided classes are not also taken at another institution.)
Graduate courses being considered for transfer must conform to College of Education policy regarding instructor qualifications and number of hours of instruction required for each semester hour of credit.
Correspondence study credit
Correspondence study credit cannot be used to satisfy MEd program requirements.
Continuing student status
Students admitted for MEd studies are usually enrolled during both fall and spring semesters of each academic year until the courses listed on their Program of Study and the Applied Project are completed. Those who fail to enroll for a fall or spring semester must reapply for program admission before continuing their studies. This can be done by completing a ‘re-entry’ application at the Graduate Admissions website . (Students who fail to enroll in course work for two or more semesters must complete a ‘degree’ application at the same website.)
Applied Project
Each MEd degree candidate will complete a comprehensive applied project after finishing at least 24 of the 30 semester hours listed on the Program of Study. The student should confer with the Chair of his or her Graduate Program Committee regarding this requirement prior to completing 12 semester hours of course work.
Application
In addition to the registration form completed on-site, applicants must complete an online degree-seeking graduate application within seven days of registration. You will be required to upload a letter of intent.
Applicants also need to submit one copy of official transcripts from the college and/or university from which you received your Bachelor’s degree and an application fee (paid on-line when completing the application). In addition, three current letters of recommendation must be sent to: Professional Development Programs Office, Arizona State University, Box 871011, Tempe, Arizona 85287-1011.
Once the Graduate College receives your official sealed transcripts, you will be admitted provisionally. You will have until the end of the semester to submit your three letters of recommendation. Upon receipt of your letters of recommendation, you will be granted regular admission if your junior/senior GPA is above a 3.0. If you fail to send in your transcripts, you will not be registered for the course. If you fail to turn in the three letters of recommendation your application will be terminated at the end of the semester in which the course was taken.
