Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education

The program prepares students for certification in early childhood education (birth to age 8 or through grade 3) and early childhood special education (birth to age 5). This degree incorporates early childhood special education, which is the only program of its kind in the state, and in high demand in schools.

Educational Studies

The Bachelor of Arts in Education for Educational Studies program prepares students to work with children and youth outside of traditional classrooms.

Graduates will gain a versatile degree that qualifies them for a variety of career paths working with children and youth in nonprofit or government organizations, private educational or recreational settings, or as entrepreneurs in children and youth oriented fields. This degree is also a good fit for students desiring post-graduate degrees in education or education-related fields. The Educational Studies program does not lead to teacher certification.

Elementary Education

The Bachelor of Arts in Education for Elementary Education program is a provisional teacher certification program, leading to full certification in elementary education for grades 1-8.

The program offers students a firm grounding in academic content, research and best practices integrated with real world classroom experiences. Students engage in field experiences and internships that align with their elementary education academic program.

Elementary Education: English as a Second Language /Bilingual Education

This program gives students a firm grounding in academic content with current research and best practices, accompanied by real-world classroom experiences.

Students can expect to learn principles of language for minority education, foundations of Structured English Immersion (SEI), global awareness, and diversity in families and communities in multicultural settings, as well as the traditional teacher subjects such as math, language arts, computer literacy and natural science for students that are English language learners.

Physical Education

The Bachelor of Arts in Education for Physical Education program empowers aspiring teachers with the necessary skills to deliver quality K-12 physical education programs.

The program is unique in its practice-oriented focus on intensive field experiences, practical application of current knowledge, a field-tested and widely used curriculum and classroom management model, and an emphasis on current technology.

Secondary Education

The Bachelor of Arts in Education for Secondary Education prepares students to become educators for youth enrolled in grades 7-12.  To integrate teacher preparation with the Secondary Education requirements for an academic specialization, the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College maintains connections with academic departments across ASU.

Special Education and Elementary Education

The Bachelor of Arts in in Education for Special Education and Elementary Education is a dual certification program that prepares students to work with children in grades K - 12 who have mild to moderate disabilities, and in general education classrooms in grades 1 - 8.

Early Childhood Education, Minor

A minor in early childhood education allows students to combine their knowledge of their major discipline while coming to understand educational practices and issues. This minor produces graduates who are educated in their major field of study and who understand and appreciate education which will positively impact the community.

Educational Studies, Minor

A minor in educational studies is designed for students who want to work with children, youth and adults outside of a formal classroom setting. This minor provides a foundation in the field of education by studying current issues and educational practices for the community setting. This minor is very versatile and applies to a wide variety of programs and opportunities.

Games and Impact, Certificate

The Certificate in Games and Impact provides a solid grounding in theory, design and use of games as tools for affecting change in education, health and social justice, among other fields.

Secondary Education, Certificate

The Secondary Education certificate program prepares students who wish to teach students enrolled in seventh through twelfth grades.

Educational Policy and Evaluation

The Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Policy and Evaluation prepares scholars who teach and conduct rigorous, high-impact research on education policy that advances our collective understanding of K-20 education.

Students engage in systematic analyses of education policies in a variety of settings, including schools, universities, research centers, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations.

Leadership and Innovation

The Doctor of Education in Leadership and Innovation is designed for practicing educator-leaders who want to transform and better their practice and create better learning opportunities for students of all ages in a range of settings.

Learning, Literacies and Technologies

The Doctor of Philosophy in Learning, Literacies and Technologies is a scholarly enterprise dedicated to high quality, influential research that transforms education in Arizona, nationally and internationally.  

Students will begin researching during their first semester, and continue throughout the four-year program. A transdisciplinary team of scholars led by distinguished faculty members will collaborate with doctoral students, individually and in teams,to design powerful studies, to implement  them in authentic settings, collect and analyze data, write research reports, and present and publish the results.

Alternative Pathways to Teacher Certification

The Mary Lou Fulton teachers College offers the Induction, Master of Education and Arizona Teacher Certification (InMAC) program as an alternative pathway to teacher certification. Participants are full time teachers of record on the Teaching Intern Certificate from the Arizona Department of Education while completing classes for the M.Ed. and certification one night a week at the Downtown Phoenix campus.

Curriculum and Instruction: Accomplished Teaching

The Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction: Accomplished Teaching concentration is designed for classroom teachers who want to enhance their instructional performance and deepen their understanding of educational theory and practice. Students will improve their understanding of student learning and assessment, and develop skills in conducting action research.

Curriculum and Instruction: Applied Behavior Analysis

The Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Teaching and Learning, Applied Behavior Analysis specialization pairs research and experience to prepare  professionals to provide therapy based on ABA principles to individuals with special learning and behavior needs.

Curriculum and Instruction: Autism Spectrum Disorders

The Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Autism Spectrum Disorders specialization equips individuals with specialized skills and knowledge to work effectively and compassionately with children and adults affected with autism.

Curriculum and Instruction: Early Childhood Education

The Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Early  Childhood Education concentration prepares individuals to meet the educational, social and emotional needs of children from birth through 8 years old.

Curriculum and Instruction: English as a Second Language

The Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction: English as a Second Language concentration prepares students to teach English language learners in a variety of settings, including U.S. schools. All courses are offered online and allow students to participate at any time of day.

Curriculum and Instruction: Gifted Education

The Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Gifted Education prepares teachers, school administrators, school psychologists, behavior analysts, and family members to work effectively with gifted children.

Curriculum and Instruction: Literacy Education

The Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction: Literacy Education concentration provides students the opportunity to investigate applied and theoretical issues in literacy education. Students will investigate issues in literacy education including elementary reading and writing, adolescent literacy, children’s literature and digital literacy, and choose a specialization in literacy education or reading endorsement. 

Educational Leadership

The Master of Education in Educational Leadership is designed for aspiring principals or teachers interested in becoming leaders in their schools and districts. Students learn to successfully manage the challenges of curriculum development, interpret and use test results, interact with the community, and lead other teachers to achieve school goals. 

Educational Technology

The Master of Education in Educational Technology emphasizes the design, development, implementation and management of educational technology applications in learning settings.

Elementary Education

This program is for those who already have a bachelor’s degree in any field and want to become certified to teach grades 1-8.

Higher and Postsecondary Education

The Master of Education in Higher and Postsecondary Education is designed to facilitate the professional development of those who work in colleges and universities in administrative or support positions.

Physical Education

The Master of Physical Education program offers three options for students interested in gaining knowledge of current curriculum and instructional and administrative practices and procedures in physical education and sport.

Secondary Education

The Master of Education in Secondary Education program offers three options for students to earn a master’s degree and Arizona teacher certification. This program is for those who want to become certified to teach grades 7-12 in the public schools and already have a bachelor’s degree in any field and at least 24 college credits in math, science, english, history, fine arts or foreign language.

Special Education

The Master of Education in Special Education program offers two options for students to earn a master’s degree and Arizona teacher certification. This program is for those seeking Arizona teacher certification in cross categorical special education (grades K-12).

Autism Spectrum Disorders

ASU’s graduate certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders is ideal for educators, interventionists, psychologists, pathologists, behavior analysts, or family members who want to enhance their preparation for working with children and adults affected with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Instructional Design and Performance Improvement

The Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College offers a graduate certificate in Instructional Design and Performance Improvement that focuses on how to facilitate learning and improve performance in a variety of settings.

Online Teaching for Grades K-12

The Online Teaching for Grades K-12 graduate certificate prepares current K-12 teachers to teach in an online environment and become leaders in the development, implementation and evaluation of online programs.
