General Concentrations
The Educational Psychology doctoral program offers a plan of study that reflects the field's increasingly interdisciplinary nature. The focus is on the application of scholarship in understanding real-world challenges and the cultural nature of development. The target populations studied include children and adults within the contexts of families and schools. An applied developmental science model is followed, with the aim of using research to inform policies and programs that further the positive development of individuals. Graduates of the program find work at universities and community colleges, state and local departments of education, K-12 schools, and various community agencies.
We are no longer accepting applications to the general concentrations of Educational Psychology.
School Psychology Concentration
The doctoral degree in Educational Psychology with a concentration in School Psychology prepares scientist-practitioners who have strong research and applied skills and who bring an empirical problem solving perspective to their work. Students are prepared for careers as psychologists in schools, other educational related settings, and universities.
Because all program students complete core courses in several areas of psychology and education along with supervised training, they are eligible for certification by state education agencies and are academically eligible to take the national examinations for independent practice in psychology and national certification as school psycholoists.
The School Psychology concentration is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and the Arizona Department of Education. The APA Commission on Accreditation can be reached at 750 First Street NE, Washington, DC 20002; (202) 336-5979.
Field Experience: Students complete a minimum of 1,000 hours of fieldwork and a one-year pre-doctoral internship of at least 1,500 hours.
