2010 Language & Literacy Conference
SPEAKERS

Sara Holbrookbook coverThis year’s conference features keynote speaker Sara Holbrook, who has visited hundreds of schools as she shares her love for poetry with students of all ages. She has authored several books, including Practical Poetry and Outspoken: Improving Communication Skills Through Poetry, which she co-authored with Michael Salinger. Her numerous books for students include The Dog Ate my Homework and Am I Naturally This Crazy?

Sara’s performance poetry builds speaking skills, helping students to speak with clarity and conviction. She is passionate about giving students authentic reasons to write and strengthen their literacy skills through performance poetry.

The afternoon keynote session will feature Sara Holbrook and Michael Salinger, as together they perform a poetry blast.

"I have many of Sara Holbrook's books and even contacted her a few years back about a student who really connected with one of her poems, and she sent him an autographed copy of the book that he kept on his desk the rest of the year... this was a "challenging" student, and her poems really made a difference to him."

—Melissa, Middle-school English teacher
