The Sanford Inspire Program represents an innovative partnership between Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College and Teach For America. Entrepreneur and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford invested over $18 million dollars to redefine the way colleges of education attract, prepare and support teachers. The Sanford Inspire Program team is fully embedded in the college and works in collaboration with partners from Teach For America and throughout the university.
Sanford Inspire Program efforts are focused on four main areas:
- Inspire and Attract: Attract teacher candidates who are committed to the idea that each child deserves an excellent teacher, through high-profile events, peer presentations and one-on-one meetings.
- Prepare and Motivate: Provide innovative learning experiences to ensure teacher candidates develop the skills to be highly effective classroom leaders who inspire their students. This includes the ability to use data to set ambitious and meaningful goals for students, the knowledge of how and why to invest students in those goals, the ability to effectively plan units of instruction, and the ability to monitor progress and adjust practices based on data to ensure all students are successful. In addition, teacher candidates develop the professional competencies needed to build positive relationships and maximize their impact on student learning.
- Strive for Excellence: Create high-quality professional development resources that allow teachers to continuously increase their effectiveness.
- Research and Share: Expand impact by evaluating each initiative and sharing what has been learned about teacher recruitment and preparation.
